Darwin Dreaming

Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Jayden Ojeda is excited to be making his second solo Repco Supercars Championship wildcard appearance at this week’s Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

Jayden had an incredible solo debut in the Supercars Championship at Winton Motor Raceway, where he managed to finish all three races above his starting position.

“I’m looking forward to my first time out at the Hidden Valley Raceway this weekend! The circuit looks awesome, it’s a short lap but it’s quite technical with a few big stops and a fast flowing section across the back,” said Ojeda.

“Hopefully we can build on some of the momentum that we gained at Winton and get some strong results. We had a productive test day out at Winton a couple of weeks ago. Both the team and I learnt heaps, and hopefully we can put it into good use this weekend” he added.

This is Jayden’s first time in Darwin, and he is looking forward to being part of such a special event, in such a special place. The weather is also a factor, with all three days on track expected to be around 33 degrees, challenging the team, car and Jayden.

“I’m looking forward to my first time up in the Territory, always exciting to learn a new track and visit a new part of Australia”.

“The warm weather will be a change! It’ll be hard work inside the cabin of the car so hydration and keeping cool, when possible, will be a huge focus”.

The Sydneysider will again sport backing from East Coast Lubes and Mobil 1 at the Merlin Darwin Triple Crown.

The #27 Holden ZB Commodore will also carry support from Morris, New Age Caravans, Walkinshaw Performance, City Hino, Johnny H Adventures, Metropole, Vantage Freight, Criticool Services, AJM Transport, and UMS.

“A massive thank you to all of the WAU partners who have got behind the program as well as all of my personal partners as well!”.

As part of Indigenous Round Walkinshaw Andretti United will reveal Jayden’s special livery on Thursday on the eve of his second Repco Supercars Championship wildcard event.

Walkinshaw Andretti United boss Bruce Stewart was impressed by Jayden’s Winton wildcard weekend.

Speaking on Supercars’ Cool Down Lap podcast, WAU Team Principal Bruce Stewart gave Jayden a glowing endorsement.

“There were a couple of moments on Saturday, particularly with cars coming through that he could have lost the car off the track and, ended up at the back,” Stewart explained.

“The story is really good because this is a young man from the western suburbs of Sydney,” Stewart said.

“He has not had the easy pathway to get through. He has super impressed the team on and off the track, just the way he interacted, and engaged with his crew. He has matured, and he’s super impressed us”.

“We are super excited about what he can do. In Darwin will have a better car for him because we will be working hard, we’ve had pace there last year”.

“So, watch out for the ‘Juice’.” he added.

The Repco Supercars Championship round at Hidden Valley in Darwin is scheduled for June 17-19.
