Ojeda on podium in Formula Ford Round 3
Borland Racing Developments driver Jayden Ojeda finished third overall in a dramatic third round of the Australian Formula Ford Series at Winton on the weekend. Aaron Cameron has been confirmed as the overall winner of the round, driving his Spectrum 014.
Jayden took fourth position in Friday afternoon’s qualifying session, held on a damp but rapidly drying Winton track. “Unfortunately my last qualifying lap was not ideal as I encountered a few difficulties with the drying surface which was getting faster lap by lap” Ojeda said.
After Race 1 was declared a non-event due to a red flag for an opening corner incident, Cameron held out Sonic Motor Racing team-mates Max Vidau and Hunter McElrea to win Race 2. Jayden Ojeda finished a strong fourth.
“We got a good batch of points and a solid starting position for our 17 lap race 3, we will tune the car up and give it 110%” Ojeda said after race 2.
In Race 3 Cameron lost the lead to Vidau after a slow start and pursued the South Australian all the way to the finish line. Ojeda forced his way into third position early and then battled up the front in a spirited race. A Safety Car mid-race compressed the field which allowed Ojeda to hold onto a strong third position.
“I gave the girl everything I could and raced as hard as I could, I can’t thank the boys from Borland Racing Developments enough for their support” Ojeda said after the race.
The bonus point Cameron scored for pole was enough for him to take the round victory ahead of Vidau, with Jayden Ojeda finished third overall with finishes of fourth and third in the two races.
The next round of the Australian Formula Ford Series is at Queensland Raceway, 8-9 July.
