Ojeda back to race at The Bend.
Western Sydney race driver Jayden Ojeda is primed for a thrilling weekend in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia at The Bend Motorsport Park South Australia on the weekend.
After a podium result at the last round at Phillip Island, two time Bathurst 6 Hour winner Jayden is set to return for Round 2 with Tigani Motorsport and Paul Lucchitti, in the #66 Mercedes AMG GT3, in the Pro-Am class.
With the category running at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park for the first time since 2022, a star-studded field will feature as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries, on The Bend's West circuit. With 17 crews and five different manufacturers to battle it out for top honours across two one-hour races, it should be an exciting race weekend.
Jayden, who made his debut in the Japanese Super Taikyu Series at the Fuji SUPER TEC 24 Hours last weekend, will be taking on Supercars stars like Chaz Mostert, Will Brown and Jaxon Evans in the Pro-Am class fight, which is currently led by Ferrari, with Mercedes-AMG and Audi close behind.
“It’s nice to come off the back of last weekend at Fuji and straight back into another race weekend. Getting consistent laps in any car is difficult as you progress with your career, so I feel very fortunate I’m able to drive so frequently as of late, and mostly in a GT3 car as well,” said Ojeda.
“This weekend will be a challenge, the GT World Challenge Australia grid is really competitive this year, and coming off the back of a strong showing at Phillip Island it would be great to keep the momentum rolling into this weekend. We’ll just focus on our program and hopefully that gets us into the fight”.
“We had a chance to test at Tailem Bend not long ago and I can’t help but feel disappointed we aren’t running on the International circuit which perfectly suits the characteristics of a GT car. Nevertheless, it’s always enjoyable to race these cars so I am looking forward to the weekend. We are running on what they call the West Circuit, and sadly we miss out on all the fun high speed stuff.” Jayden added.
“The Fuji 24 Hour in Japan was a great weekend, to get to drive through the night in the rain with 60 other cars was insane. The race ultimately didn’t play out the way we wanted, after starting from pole, but I was really happy with my parts of the race, and I can take a lot of positives away from the event.”
“I’m looking forward to furthering my GT development here in Australia with Paul Lucchitti and Tigani Motorsport. I’ve really enjoyed where GT racing has taken me so far, and I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish together as a team throughout the year.” Ojeda said.
“A huge thank you to City Hino, Johnny H, AJM Transport, Hadley Green Investment Group, That Patio Guy, MSI Gaming, Nepean Regional Security, Atkinson Pontifex, Focus Driver Performance and Driving Solutions for their continued support” Jayden added.
The Bend hosts the Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on May 31-June 2.
All races can be viewed live and free on the screens of Seven (7mate and streamed on 7plus). International viewers, including New Zealanders, can watch via the GT World YouTube channel.
