Garry Rogers Motorsport has confirmed Jayden will step into its wildcard entry for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
Jayden will team up with fellow Bathurst 1000 rookie and Super2 rival Tyler Everingham in the Holden ZB Commodore with the experienced GRM team, led by founder Garry Rogers and experienced engineer Richard Hollway.
Jayden is currently competing in the Dunlop Super2 Series with MW Motorsport and is leading rookie and fourth in the standings after two rounds, with a best finish of second in his most recent outing at Sydney Motorsport Park.
“It’s an exciting day for Jayden. We’re certainly very pleased to have Jayden get this opportunity.” Team Director Barry Rogers told Speedcafe.com.
“There’s no doubting his driving ability. That’s been on show in front of the people that need to see how he drives. His ability is certainly unquestioned”
“As a person, he’s a really good, styley, young man. He studies hard and works hard. The road to Bathurst hasn’t been an easy road either. He does a good job to get his funding together” Rogers said.
“Interestingly, Jayden came and saw us at the start of the year before he did Super2 and was looking at S5000 and some other things”.
The announcement leaves Jayden less than a week to prepare for not only his maiden appearance in the Bathurst 1000, but his double duties racing in the two 100 km Dunlop Super2 races.
“My emotions are running crazy at the moment, thank you to GRM and all the special people in my life that made this possible. It’s crazy to be honest.” Ojeda told Auto Action.
“Obviously going into the year, it definitely wasn’t on the cards to have a co-drive, we just wanted to have a good year in Super2 and build on that for next year”.
“To have the opportunity to do double duties and to make my Supercars debut, it’s a crazy prospect. I’m really thankful for the opportunity put in front of me by GRM and all the team on my side that made this deal happen. I’m excited.”
“I’m pretty sure we’re the youngest pairing on the grid and our team is one of the most experienced to help guide us through our weekend is great,” Ojeda said.
As for Ojeda’s expectations, it’s simply to enjoy the experience and stay out of trouble.
“If we can make it to the end of the race with a straight car, that’s a win in my book,” Ojeda said.
From contemplating a non-attendance at this year’s Bathurst 1000, Jayden will fight for a podium in Super2 and will make his Supercars debut in Australia’s greatest race in what’s been a crazy fortnight.
The 2020 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will be held on October 15-18.
